* Note: Target shooting is not allowed in the San Pedro Riparian National Conservation Area (SPRNCA). Target shooting is prohibited in these canyons due to safety concerns. Target shooting is permitted throughout most of the Coronado National Forest with exception to Hunter and Ash Canyons on the east side of the Huachuca Mountains. Wilderness recreationists can explore rugged cliffs, perennial springs, deep canyons, and breathtaking peaks via more than 20 different trails. The Miller Peak Wilderness is roadless and motorized and mechanized vehicles (cars, trucks, ATVs, mountain bikes, etc.) are not permitted.
For those looking for a true wilderness experience, the Miller Peak Wilderness spans 20,190 acres in the southern half of the Huachuca Mountains.
Use caution when traveling on rough roads cellular reception is limited in much of GMU 35A, and much of the service available in the southern half of the unit is provided by Mexican wireless providers that charge additional fees. A very general rule of thumb is that the more digits in the road number, the more off-road capable your vehicle will need to be (FSR 61, for example, will generally be a better road than FSR 4069). Main roads are regularly maintained, however high-clearance vehicles are recommended for many of the spur roads. Access into USFS lands is plentiful with numerous numbered roads and trails.
